The Norwegian ice hockey team is one of many that participate at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships. The Norwegian Ice Hockey Association oversees the team. In 1934 The Norwegian Ice Hockey Association was founded and became a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation in 1935. In 1937 they sent a team to compete in the World Championships where they played their first match against Czechoslovakia.
Despite a mediocre debut on the international hockey scene, the period from 1939 to 1953 was a golden age for Norwegian Ice Hockey, beginning with the period from 1949 to 1953 has been viewed as a "golden age" in the history of the national team starting with a 2–0 win against Belgium at the World Championships in 1949. In 1951 coach Bud McEachern led the team to a defeated of the US and Great Britain. This saw them placing A powerful fourth in the World Championships. In 1953 Norway became the first to play the Soviet Union.
In 1952 Norway placed fourth in the Olympics and Norwegian Ice Hockey's biggest win to date was against Belgium in Bulgaria in 1975 where they scored 24-0. Their next overwhelming victory occurred against China, in Hungary in 2005.
