Mumford and Sons background
Considering the banjo styling’s that has helped create Mumford and Sons’ signature sound, it may surprise yourself to find that the band actually hail from London, not the Southern USA. The band members are Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwayne, and each member plays various instruments throughout their live shows.
Mumford’s prominence in the name comes from his organising of the band, and Lovett admitted the name was meant to invoke the sense of an “antiquated family business name”! Formed in late 2007, the band emerged among a host of other similar bands in West London and were labelled for heralding in the “West London folk scene” with other notable folk musicians such as Laura Marlin and Noah and the Whale hailing from the same area.
The group has released three studio albums, with a fourth to come in late 2018. The first Mumford and Sons album Sigh No More was released in 2009 and earned the group numerous award nominations, including Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards, as well as a performance alongside Bob Dylan at the same Awards Show. The second Mumford and Sons album, Babel (2012), was even more successful and became the fasted selling rock album of the 21st century, winning the Grammy Award for Best Album and topping the album charts worldwide, including the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand. Then, in 2015, Mumford and Sons returned with Wilder Mind, a more rock-focused album which, again topped album charts worldwide. With so many great songs to their name, and lead singer Marcus Mumford's gravelly voice, a Mumford and Sons concert is not something you want to miss out on. Buy Mumford & Sons tickets here today.
