Manchester United finished the 2018-19 season campaign under Portuguese coach José Mourinho in a less than desirable 6th place, and as a result trophy-less. There were high hopes for Mourinho, as he was previously an incredibly successful manager with 25 major honours however, this was not to be his fate at the helm of Manchester United. It was clear from early on that the tenure of Jose Mourinho was destined to be a short one when he became extremely vocal about his distain over the backing he’d received in the transfer market. This was followed by a string of unfortunate high-profile defeats against Manchester City, Liverpool and West Ham. Enter, new and current coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was originally appointed on an interim basis following the departure of Mourinho. However, on the back of an incredible 11 games unbeaten run, the former striker won the confidence of the club, and was given permanent tenure as the Manchester United team captain in chief. History of Manchester United
Nicknamed "the Red Devils", the club was founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to its current stadium, Old Trafford, in 1910.
