The band formed in 2007 and the name is based on a story that lead singer and founder Alex Ebert wrote when he was younger, about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe. The group are known for having numerous members and currently, there are ten members of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. The debut Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros album Up From Below (2009), propelled the band to fame thanks to songs like "Home", "40 Day Dream" and many other great songs. In fact, Barack Obama recently said that "Home" was one of his favourite songs. This album was followed by intense touring and numerous TV appearances, like on Late Night with David Letterman. Their second album Here charted at number 5 on the US Billboard 200 and also performed well worldwide, charting in countries like France and Australia. In 2011, the group collaborated with fellow folk stars Mumford and Sons and Old Crow Medicine Show on a Tour.
