Lord of the Dance - The Wonder of Irish Dance
Michael Flatley wrote, starred in and produced the Irish dance show, Lord of the Dance. Flatley also performed the starring role in the show. The original music for Lord of the Dance was penned by Ronan Hardiman. As the story unfolds, the "Lord of the Dance" wages an epic battle against the evil dark lord "Don Dorcha" who has an evil plan to conquer Planet Ireland.
Lord of the Dance History
Initially becoming well-known due to his role in "Riverdance", Flatley relinquished this in 1995 as he wished to have more control over his role in the show. He aimed to produce and star in a show that would be performed in a stadium not just theatres, and in so doing started to create a feature that would ultimately become "Planet Ireland". This would later become the show's finale. It took him just six months to create and produce Lord of the Dance.
The Lord of the Dance premiered on 27 June 1996 and by March 1997 the show was also performed at the Oscars. In 1999 and 2000 Flatley signed with Disney to perform at Walt Disney World. Two troupes of Lord of the Dance now do world tours. The 2010 reunion tour saw the return of Michael Flatley to the stage after an absence of a few years.

The costumes, sets and lighting add to the sense of fantasy and wonder with which the entire show gleams.
In the show, Michael Flatley as the "Lord of the Dance" fights with and thwarts the dark lord's intrusion into Planet Ireland. The battle between love and lust is also prominent lived through dance throughout the show when we meet Saoirse, who fights Morrighan the temptress and ultimately wins the love of the Lord of the Dance. The roots of these stories can be found in ancient Irish folklore and Biblical references, while the title of the show has been taken from a modern day hymn
